Elements of a Successful Employment Offer Letter

As a small business owner, you likely wear many hats. As the person in charge of hiring, firing, training, accounting and even sales, you have a lot on your plate. However, taking a step back and analyzing your processes is a must, especially when it comes to hiring. Offering a comprehensive and informative letter to a qualified candidate can mean the difference between gaining a new talented employee and them turning you down. Therefore, we have noted some important, however unusual, components to include in your next offer letter. Even more importantly, ensure your operation is protected with a DE EPLI program.

Wellness program.

Demonstrating your wellness program to new employees is a great way to show you care about employee health, wellness, and productivity.

Trial period details.

“More small businesses are starting to do a trial period of specific tasks they are experienced in, categorizing them as 1099 contractors, and then reevaluating after the project is over to move them over to a W2 full-time employee. This protects the employer quite a bit, but also gives the employee a set period of time to decide whether it is a good fit for them or not to stay on longer-term,” states  Matt Murphy of Kids in the Game LLC to Small Business Trends.

Travel allowance.

Include details of an employee’s travel allowance if you offer one. Not only is this a great perk, this is reason enough for many qualified candidates to apply, giving you the upper hand when it comes to selecting applicants.

A personal touch.

Anyone can send out the obligatory “We’re so happy you’re joining our team” letter. Instead, add a personalized version for why you specifically chose that applicant. Next, try giving them free merchandise with your company logo on it, as well.

Flexible start date.

While you might be excited about having a new employee come on board, do your best to be flexible. By allowing them a few days or weeks off between their previous job and yours, they can get some rest, take a quick vacation, and recharge.
